Chapter 9: Sludge Golem

Fang Han learned a lot from Old Town Chief, but he still didn't know how Chuckel managed to create such eerie fog and monsters.

However, Old Town Chief did tell Fang Han where Chuckel used to live, suggesting there might be some clues there.

Fang Han called Yuan Qingchen to explore Chuckel's former residence together, feeling it wouldn't be safe alone.

Following Old Town Chief's description, the two found Chuckel's home in a secluded corner of the town; it was a dilapidated old house.

"It's this run-down?"

Yuan Qingchen looked at the crumbling doors and windows, wondering if the wizards in this world were so poor.

"Get your weapons ready; I have a bad feeling about this."

Fang Han had already drawn his white sheath and held it in front of him, and Yuan Qingchen also took out his stone sword, following Fang Han into the old, dilapidated house.

Upon entering, the house was filled with a pile of broken things. Fang Han checked his minimap and found a passage leading to a basement, which opened into a single room.

"You stand guard here; I'll go down and check."

With that, Fang Han pulled out a torch and entered the basement, while Yuan Qingchen wondered where Fang Han had gotten the torch.

Fang Han descended the stairs with the torch in his left hand. As soon as he reached the bottom, he used the torch's light to scout his surroundings. The dim, confined space was quite large, even containing several rooms.

"This is quite well-organized, isn't it?"

Fang Han looked at the neatly arranged chemical reagents in bottles and various professionally placed instruments.

"You can tell he really enjoyed being a wizard."

Fang Han searched through these materials, taking anything usable. Among so many materials, Fang Han actually found gunpowder.

"Anyway, you've been kicked out of town, so you won't need these things. Might as well benefit me."

Chuckel: I'll ******* you... (American expletive)

After Fang Han 'cleaned' Chuckel's desk, he found a piece of paper with instructions for making golems written on it.

Fang Han, engrossed in reading, didn't notice a door quietly opening. He read quickly, and after finishing, glanced at his minimap: a red dot was two meters behind him.

"Holy crap! There's a sneaky one."

Fang Han quickly switched to his shield. He heard a sound like mud splattering on wood, and his shield's durability decreased by one point.

Fang Han held his shield in his left hand and his white sheath in his right, on guard. He looked at the humanoid monster, whose body was entirely made of mud.

"Sludge Golem?"

Fang Han quickly recalled the golem refining method he had just read on the paper.

"Sharp weapons don't seem to be very effective against it."

Fang Han put away his weapon and kept his distance from the Sludge Golem.

Every golem has a core-like object; to defeat these golems, you just need to destroy the core.

The Sludge Golem watched Fang Han circling it, as if it knew its opponent dared not approach.

So, the Sludge Golem hurled everything usable around it at Fang Han. The sound of things being thrown echoed through the basement. At this moment, Yuan Qingchen, guarding the entrance, heard it and opened the team chat.

<Qingshui: What's wrong? Are you okay?>

<Xin Bu Re: I'll tell you later, after I kill this monster.>

Fang Han quickly sent what he wanted to say to Yuan Qingchen, then continued to face off against the Sludge Golem.

"This pile of mud needs to be either diluted with water or dried out with fire, but I don't seem to have either of those right now. What should I do?"

While Fang Han was thinking, the Sludge Golem lunged. Fang Han could only block with his shield.

"Fire, fire, hey, I have an idea."

Fang Han quickly took out the chemical reagents he had just 'organized'. After a simple calculation, he threw several glass bottles at the Sludge Golem. Upon contact, the chemicals seemed to sink into the Sludge Golem's body as if into a swamp.

The Sludge Golem seemed to let out a mocking sound, but the next moment, its body began to solidify and crack.

The Sludge Golem couldn't smile anymore, but its smile transferred to Fang Han's face.

"You can't move now, can you?"

Fang Han picked up his Divine Light Stick and walked to the solidified Sludge Golem. He raised the Divine Light Stick and delivered a 'Divine Light Skull Shatter' to the Sludge Golem's head.

"That's what you get for throwing things at me, that's what you get for throwing things at me."

Fang Han wasn't worried about the Divine Light Stick breaking. Why, you ask?

MC brand, you can trust it.

After smashing it for a while, Fang Han saw a blue, spherical object. Fang Han knew this was the golem's core.

Then, he grabbed and removed it, and the solidified Sludge Golem immediately disintegrated. In Fang Han's view, the Sludge Golem exploded into a pile of mud and a diamond.

<Low-level Golem Core: Can be used to create low-level golems. Perhaps putting this in a silicone doll would be very popular with otaku.>

"What the hell is a silicone doll? Even dungeons are this inappropriate."

Fang Han was speechless at this moment.

"But, can this thing be sold to other players?"

Fang Han didn't leave immediately but instead 'organized' (crossed out: looted) all the rooms. He found some notes and records, which he carefully put away before returning to the old, dilapidated house.

"How was it? Did you find anything?"

Yuan Qingchen asked. Fang Han took out the notes.

"These notes are Chuckel's research records, and here, this is for you."

Fang Han handed the Low-level Golem Core to Yuan Qingchen. Yuan Qingchen looked at the description of the golem core in his hand, and his eyes instantly hardened.

"From now on, you're my best buddy. If you ever have any trouble, I'll definitely back you up."

Fang Han extended his hand.

Yuan Qingchen: ?

"That'll be 500 gold coins."

Yuan Qingchen: ...

"Alright, let's check the quest progress now."

<1. Investigate Mist Town and survive for 7 days (Incomplete) 2. Kill 10 monsters. Quest progress: 6/10 (Incomplete) 3. Defeat the dungeon boss (Optional) (Incomplete)>

"None of the quests are complete. Our quest to investigate Mist Town might be done, but we still have to wait until the seventh day. How about we take down the boss?"

Yuan Qingchen suggested.

"Why do you think killing the boss is (Optional) in the quest?"

Fang Han looked at Yuan Qingchen as if he were an idiot.

"Uh... the boss is too strong? The system thinks we can't handle it?"

Yuan Qingchen whispered.

"You know, and you still ask! And you've even cleared three dungeons."

Fang Han was speechless, wondering how Yuan Qingchen had managed to survive the previous dungeons.

"To get a high rating, we must defeat the boss. No matter how strong the boss is, it should have a weakness."

Yuan Qingchen said somewhat guiltily.

"Have you considered what happens if our strongest attack can't break through the boss's weak point's defense?"

"Ah, this..."

"Forget it. Let's find the boss and Chuckel's whereabouts first."

Fang Han suggested finding Chuckel and the boss's locations first, then deciding.

(PS: This dungeon has two bosses, one in plain sight, the other hidden. Guess who? ( ̄y▽ ̄)~* covering mouth to snicker)
