"What happened?!"
Susan and Li Andy quickly arrived downstairs, and the quartermaster looked a little flustered.
After catching his breath, the quartermaster said,
"Miss Susan, last night, Director Lamb went to investigate a suspect based on the clues you provided earlier, and he was seriously injured. He's currently in the Medical Institute! He… he asked me to call you over!"
Susan's body stiffened, then she grabbed the quartermaster's collar and hurried to the Medical Institute.
The matter of discussing the commission with Li Andy was completely forgotten.
Li Andy raised his eyebrows, left a note for his sisters, and then leisurely followed.
The fact that he could still issue orders and call people meant that the Branch Chief wasn't dead yet.
They arrived at the Medical Institute next to the Public Security Branch.
Susan, who rushed into the ward, looked surprised:
"Uncle Lamb, you're not dead?"
"Pfft—"
The Fat Chief, who was drinking water, spewed it out.
"What kind of talk is that?! Also, call me Branch Chief!"
The Fat Chief clearly understood Susan's personality. He angrily slammed the water glass back onto the table, glanced at Li Andy who had followed him, and then threw a stack of files over.
"The culprit has been identified. His name is George Seid.
"He used to be a butcher, then he studied at the Medical Institute for two years and inexplicably became a surgical assistant.
"We found many organ specimens of the victims in his home. He's a clumsy imitator of 'Jack the Ripper'!"
Susan frowned, listening and quickly reviewing, pondering over any details she might have missed.
Seeing her enter her focused state, the Fat Chief sighed helplessly:
"Susan, I gave you the files not so you could go chase him now.
"Some time ago, due to the 'Iron Water Vomit' epidemic, the higher-ups have already sealed off most of the passages.
"That person was forced by me to hide in Black Alley, so for now, you don't need to worry about him escaping Nine District.
"You, on the other hand, should honestly wait for three days until the procedures from above are completed, then you can investigate with the specially dispatched commissioner."
"Specially dispatched commissioner?"
Susan raised her eyebrows, her mind flashing back to the strangeness of her fight with the Raincoat Man, and she already had a vague suspicion.
She closed the files and said directly:
"No, three days is too slow. The culprit certainly won't stop harming people just because we stop pursuing him. If you can't make them speed up, I will continue the investigation and not give the other party a chance to breathe."
"You!!"
The Fat Chief stood up from the bed in anger, but his injured right leg made him lie back down, twisting his fat face as he cursed loudly,
"Who do you think you are?! Three days is already fast! The Queen's cruise is imminent, and now the higher-ups also have a bunch of troublesome matters! Don't you dare cause me any more trouble!"
Susan didn't listen to the advice and remained stubborn:
"I can investigate by myself and won't cause you any trouble. If I die in the line of duty, please bury me next to my father."
With that, she left the ward without looking back.
"You!!"
The Fat Chief was so angry he clutched his chest, taking several deep breaths before recovering.
"Justice, justice... what kind of justice?! This is suicide! You do as much as you're capable of, don't you understand that? What an idiot!!"
The Fat Chief grumbled and looked at Li Andy, who had been watching the show.
Li Andy was very sensible and handed over his business card:
"Nice to meet you, Director Lamb, I am an investigator from the Spirit Seeker Detective Agency."
Director Lamb took the business card, hesitated for a few seconds, then spoke:
"You... Old Du Lin mentioned you to me. To be honest, I'm just an ordinary Branch Chief and don't want to get involved in those matters. But Susan..."
When Susan was mentioned, the Fat Chief, who was nearing retirement, couldn't help but sigh again and pleaded:
"I hope you can do me a favor and look after that stubborn girl. She's my comrade's child, and I promised her father. The commission fee, I'll pay according to your rules."
Li Andy nodded. He hadn't intended for Susan to die, but he didn't expect to earn some extra money along the way.
It seemed Old Du Lin's mention of helping with promotion was actually being done.
"Director Lamb, please rest assured, Miss Susan was already planning to discuss an assistance commission with me, and it doesn't conflict with your commission at all.
"Oh, by the way, this is the cost of treatment Miss Susan incurred at our place yesterday. If possible, you can settle it in advance."
After saying that, Li Andy pulled out the already prepared list and handed it to the Branch Chief.
The latter's eyes went black after reading it, and he stiffened his limbs and fainted directly.
Li Andy couldn't help but murmur:
"The medicinal materials were all good quality procured from Old Du Lin. I only increased the price by 20%. That's not expensive, is it?"
"The prices in the game aren't that different, right?"
"How is this expensive?"
"Could it be... that they aren't working hard enough?"
.........
Black Alley, edge.
Susan walked through it, with no specific direction or target.
Her Public Security Officer uniform scared various people into lowering their heads, not daring to look at her.
She grabbed a few people, described George's appearance, and asked if they had seen him, but no one could give her a correct answer.
These ragged people either shook their heads or gave random answers.
It caused her to walk a lot of extra distance and lose the few coins and banknotes she had in her pocket.
"In Black Alley, if you do this, you won't find anyone even after three days and nights. You might as well go back and wait slowly."
A familiar voice came from behind. Susan turned around and found it was Li Andy.
He had changed into a relatively low-key dark-colored outfit, holding a cane and lightly tapping the wall.
"Follow me."
Li Andy didn't wait for Susan's answer and turned into another alley.
Susan frowned slightly and quickly followed.
From a high-angle view, the two looked like they were navigating a maze.
Li Andy planned to take her to Old Du Lin first, to hand over the previous investigation commission and also to get the contact methods of various gangs.
Although he could directly find the murderer based on his spiritual sense, it was not easy to explain to others.
Moreover, directly searching without any groundwork could easily reveal clues to people who might be hiding in the dark.
This was like playing a game; an experienced player could tell at a glance whether someone had read a guide or not.
Just like deceiving fate, if the outcome's node is predetermined, then the longer and more complex the process, the better.
